The last time I kept a book list I did a terrible job of updating it, but I've been reading more recently and am eager to keep a reading list for this year.

Book Time!

I found a Barnes & Noble gift card today and am planning to buy a book very soon (possibly today)! I'd like for this book to not be manga (even though I still need to buy the latest FMA volume) and I'd like for my flist to help me select which book I should buy. There are three I've been thinking about reading, but I'm also open to other options.

ETA: I know I misspelled "thief." I'm tired.

[Poll #1375459]

Thanks for your assistance!

How Much I Hated John Green

theemdash: (HP Lupin)
After finally procuring a copy of John Green's Looking for Alaska, I sank my happy teeth into it last night. And when I say my teeth are happy, I really, really mean it. They are so happy that I have to post this very important list that describes:

How Much I Hated John Green in the First 10 Pages of Looking for Alaska

1. . . . and 3. I never really excelled at small talk. My mom, however, can talk small for hours. . . .

2. The only thing worse than having a party that no one attends is having a party attended only by two vastly, deeply uninteresting people.

3. Florida was plenty hot, certainly, and humid, too. Hot enough that your clothes stuck to you like Scotch tape, and sweat dripped like tears from your forehead into your eyes.

4. I'd never been born again with the baptism and weeping and all that, but it couldn't feel much better than being born again as a guy with no known past.

5. . . .

Okay, so I got distracted while writing this list because I'm really enjoying the book. Suffice it to say, the prose is wonderful and it sucks like awesome. All Nerdfighters should make it a point to read it.

2007 Reading in Review

  • Jan. 1st, 2008 at 9:30 PM

Reading 50 books in 2007 was, um, not so much of a success. I mean, yes, I did get through 40 (actually 41 since I only have about 5 pages left in Death Note Vol 5 and will count it towards the 2007 list), but of those 40 books only 7 were actual books. So, 33 of those books were manga or graphic novels. And those 7 novels I read? All Harry Potter. I feel kind of lame. And by "kind of" I actually mean "a lot."

I'm once again shooting for the 50 books, but this year I'm adding one stipulation: I have to read at least 12 books that do not contain pictures and are not fandom-related.

Yay for promotion of literacy!

1. Grab the nearest book.
2. Open the book to page 123.
3. Find the fifth sentence.
4. Post the text of the next 3 sentences on your blog along with these instructions.
5.Don't you dare dig for that "cool" or "intellectual" book inyourcloset! I know you were thinking about it! Just pick up whateverisclosest.
6. Tag five people.

The Head Inquisitor inspected it critically.

"What're those?" he demanded.

"You click them together when you dance," said Wensleydal, a shade defensively.

I don't think anyone actually tagged me for this one, but I thought it would be a good time to list the books that are currently sitting on my nightstand. Really, it's impressive.
