Book Time!

I found a Barnes & Noble gift card today and am planning to buy a book very soon (possibly today)! I'd like for this book to not be manga (even though I still need to buy the latest FMA volume) and I'd like for my flist to help me select which book I should buy. There are three I've been thinking about reading, but I'm also open to other options.

ETA: I know I misspelled "thief." I'm tired.

[Poll #1375459]

Thanks for your assistance!

Of course, I also think you should read the other two, but I think 'The Book Thief' will be more enjoyable for just reading than 'Feed', and you can listen to all of 'The Graveyard Book' online. Or watch, if you're so inclined, since they're video clips, but it's there.

You have reasoned reasoning. (Also I may have just found a second online gift card, so I might purchase a second book online. SHHHH.)

I won't tell anyone you're getting more books if you don't tell anyone I used reasoning before noon.

Also, the chapters of The Graveyard Book can be found here.

I wanted to click "The Book Thief", but non of your follow options where "because it is the next book I will read and we could talk about it", so I went with "The Graveyard Book", cause I don't know "Feed" and have never heard of it.

Oh, is it? Well consider that The Book Thief has a weighted vote on it, then. ;) (I'm actually currently reading Mainspring by Jay Lake and I'm supposed to start a re-read of Harry Potter some time this month, but I'm really excited about all three of these books, so I'm thinking I may start on whatever I buy rather quickly.)

Feed is basically about having internet in the brain. You know I'm fond of that topic. ;)

Well, theoretically it is. I got it for my birthday and more or less have it on top of my pile of unread books ever since, but then I keep buying new books and it gets pushed back again.

I have to finish "American Gods" and then I should really start "The Book Thief". And stop buying new books for a while.

If you also read it, that might be motivation. Though "Feed" sounds interesting too. So if you read that and liked it well enough, I might buy that and again not read "The Book Thief". I suck like that sometimes.

I'd also like to point out that you again misspelled "thief", my cute little apple theif. ;)

I'm tired. That's my excuse and I'm sticking to it.

Okay. Too bad I don't remember the other excuses you gave the last five or so times. ;)

I think it's cute, though.

At least it wasn't a "rouge theif."

Hahaha.

Yeah, at least not a "rouge theif". Though I only ever read "rouge" once from you and I think that was to annoy The Amy?

I don't remember anymore, but you misspelled "thief" so many times during our whole "Mexican apple thief" phase, that it kinda stuck.

The Amy will never let me live down once typing "Rouge Demon Hunter" so that stuck. *sighs*

Awww. *pets*

Evil Amy. Though I will probably not let the "theif" go that soon either. I liked being called "apple theif".

Even though I didn't know what a "theif" is. ;)

But we all have words we simply can't spell correctly. I have tons of them.

I was going to say Graveyard because, although I haven't read, I do like Gaiman. However, that was until I saw The Book Thief. This book is made of so much awesome that I ever bought the audiobook. Bought! I rarely listen to audiobooks and never actually buy them *coughtorrentcough* so it says something about utterly awesome I thought this book was. *g*

In summary: The Book Thief is made of complete and utter awesome. *g*

I have read The Graveyard Book, and I also got to see Neil read from it (I think chapter 2 or 3 of the live readings online was the one I attended). I love this book so much, and it's wonderful, and you want to own it in hardback, and it's also a fast read if you have more books coming up.

I will always vote for Neil Gaiman. I also vote for you finishing Good Omens before buying another book, but I'm not going to hold my breath. :P

I'm on page 240-something (or something). My concentration on that book was totally broken and I've had issues with picking it back up again, but I read a section of it every now and then. I think I'll finish it this year.

You left off the ticky box option of "It's Neil FREAKIN' Gaiman" =D

The Book Thief is a seriously amazing book. The writing is superb; the choice of protagonist is odd yet works so well. It's the first book to have made me cry even a little bit for a long time.

You said not manga but I suggested one anyway. But I think you should buy the Gaiman.

I actually met Markus Zusak back in high school. He did a creative writing class for my English group. Very interesting, cool guy.
