Finding a Fandom Medium
Right now, my fandoms are being way too conflicting. Last Saturday was the 10th Anniversary of Buffy and filled with much Whedon joy and happiness. Next Friday (March 23rd) is the release of the new TMNT CGI movie and there’s all sorts of exciting goodies available online with sneak peeks. (The clip from Wondercon is here, if you haven’t seen it—omgawesome.)
And smack dab in the middle of these two exciting events is SG-1. One moment I’m flying high on excitement because of happiness in two of my first and favorite fandoms and the next I’m crashing down because it’s the “end” of my last great obsession. *sniffs* But I think this is all happening at the same time to remind me of something.
Buffy is celebrating 10 years and is coming back in the form of a Season 8 comic book series that’s going to be sanctioned by Joss and therefore canon (out today!).
TMNT is enjoying its fourth movie, 14 years after the last big screen feature. Not to mention that TMNT has survived at least 4 comic book runs that had to shut their doors and it’s in its second cartoon series. And that’s only scratching the surface of its life.
Fandom goes on. Creators find ways to resurrect their characters and shows. This isn’t the end for SG-1.
So even though my fandom heart is tugging in different directions, it’s all telling me the same thing: Fandom is unending.
I’m looking forward to an SG-1 mini-marathon tonight and saying a fond see-ya-soon to some of my favorite characters.
- Mood:
contemplative
