Newly Archived Fic Post #14

theemdash: (SG-1 Cruvus)
We're getting a little more eclectic with fandoms since I decided to post some fics I didn't think I would. (It's because at heart I am a completist and not doing so felt weird.) As before ALL fics have been polished.
★'d fics are personal favorites.

Stargate: SG-1
The Memory's Faulty, But the Feeling's All Right, R, Jack/Daniel, action, off-world, sex, hand jobs, first time, FEELINGS, angst, memory loss, episode related "Meridian" & "Fallen", Season 7 (2,060 words)
ow, ow, ow, why the hell do you guys let me write fic? I'm so mean! (Also I'm so predictable; I write about Daniel's amnesia a lot)

SGA: McKay/Sheppard Collection
Bickering, PG, Jack/Daniel, implied McKay/Sheppard, humor, crossover SG-1, Daniel in Atlantis! (210 words)
100% my SG-1 bias is showing

2230, PG-13, McKay/Sheppard, humor, a note, waiting, impatience (100 words)
of my tiny amount of SGA fic, this might be my favorite

Trading 'Em, PG, Jack/Daniel, McKay/Sheppard, humor, aggravated!Jack and Sheppard, bickering!Daniel and McKay (100 words)
shockingly, this is kind of mean to McKay

Firefly
Stained Stubborn, PG, Zoe, Mal, Wash in absentia, angst, grief, character death :(, post-Serenity (100 words)
hello, I am still grieving

Star Wars
Stolen Moments, PG, Anakin/Padme, Obi-Wan, established relationship, friendship, jealousy, pre-Revenge of the Sith (360 words)
Anakin is a jealous boy

Supernatural/Harry Potter Crossover
The Most Haunted House In Britain, PG, Sam, Dean, crossover, humor (350 words)
this concept still makes me giggle

More newly archived fics! As before ALL fics have been polished.
★'d fics are personal favorites.

Stargate: SG-1
A Real Homecoming, PG, Sam, Jack, Daniel, Teal'c, friendship, team bonding, season 8 (100 words)
aww, Teal'c ♥

Bowling Night, PG-13, Teal'c, Vala, friendship, bowling, team bonding, humor, sexual innuendo, season 10 (440 words)
Teal'c and Vala together as friends is delightful

Some Alien Virus, NC-17, Jack/Daniel, smut, blow job, exhibitionism, AMTDI? (690 words)
I stand by SG-1 abusing the weirdness of their lives to get what they want

Cold Comfort, R, Jack/Daniel, alcohol, drunken kissing, first time, angst, episode tag "Gamekeeper" (2,940 words)
I like this more than I remember—angst + kissing = gold

SG-1/SGA Crossover
Commiseration, PG-13, Daniel/Sheppard, seduction, comfort, past infidelity (420 words)
let's assume alien hoodoo is involved because I cannot imagine Jack and Rodney together

Buffy the Vampire Slayer
To Torture You, PG, Buffy, Spike, humor, stakeout, annoying!Spike, Season 5 (100 words)
omg Spike is annoying

In Your Dreams, PG, Buffy, Xander, humor, banter, technically Season 8 but not really (140 words)
I could totally picture this happening within canon

You'll Never Know It, PG, Spike, Tara in absentia, angst, character death, episode related "Seeing Red," Season 7 (400 words)
hello, grief, my old friend

Harry Potter:
For Harry, PG-13, Ron/Hermione, friendship, action, AU for Deathly Hollows (760 words)
it is so weird to read my 2005 prognostication of DH

Here's a few more newly archived fics. As before ALL fics have been polished (though one less than I wanted to because I realized I have other things I should be doing than rewriting fic that is 12 years old).
★'d fics are personal favorites.

Stargate: SG-1
Choiceless, NC-17, Jack/Daniel, voyeurism, exhibitionism, masturbation, rainstorm, Season 5 (1,830 words)
I remembered this as a hot fic, but daaaaaaaaaamn

Slow Burn, NC-17, Jack/Daniel, angry sex, angst, guilt, hand jobs and blow jobs, outdoor sex, episode tag "Scorched Earth" (5,900 words)
baby's first slash: yes, the first Jack/Daniel story I ever wrote (there are some awkward things in this, boy howdy)

This Isn't Personal, R, Jack/Vala, past-Jack/Daniel, past-Daniel/Vala, hurt/comfort, breakup, Daniel is a jerk in absentia (430 words)
seriously, why is Daniel always so selfish about getting to Atlantis?

The Cut of a Man, PG, Jack, gen, a little humor, a little serious, 5 things, CO reports about Jack (140 words)
it's so short, but I really enjoy this one

Stargate: Atlantis
Molasses, PG, Mckay/Teyla, humor, fluff, Carson should have drugged him more (950 words)
this is not as horribly awkward as I remember

Saiyuki
Jealous, PG-13, Gojyo/Sanzo, implied Gojyo/Hakkai, jealousy, possessiveness, Gojyo being a shit (125 words)
omg Gojyo is such a shit

A Scarf on a Cold Day, PG, Hakkai/Sanzo, subtext, camping, snow (320 words)
this is probably me at my most subtle

Harry Potter: Remus/Sirius Drabble Collection
Novel Abuse, PG, Remus/Sirius, humor, never loan your books to Sirius (200 words)
poor Remus

Eat Your Words, PG-13, Remus/Sirius, angsty fluff, impending sexual content (200 words)
somewhere under this is a fic about forgiveness

SGA & The Wrong Demographic

SGA Was Cancelled And I Kind Of Care
I really did plan to post my own thoughts on SGA's cancellation but then [livejournal.com profile] entil2001 posted his thoughts and they're pretty much what I was thinking: Breaking News: SGA Cancelled; The World Braves On. While his title is a little snarky [livejournal.com profile] entil2001 puts forth The Bottom Line, pointing out that:

We have a show that has obviously been the victim of ongoing budget cuts and production concessions. We have a show where long-term cast members were tossed aside for cheaper new additions or "recurring" players. We have a show on the cusp of syndication.

. . .

On the other hand, they know that the SG1 DVD-films sold like hotcakes, they can commission those films and "mix" the casts of SG1 and SGA on a case-by-case basis, and all that falls on MGM (the studio). Meanwhile, SFC can save a ton of money by ordering a new series with a new cast, which will keep the franchise brand alive for the network while shifting the costs right back at MGM.

Which, yes, that's pretty much how I feel about the cancellation. So, thanks for typing that up for me, [livejournal.com profile] entil2001. ;)

Personally I never connected to SGA the same way I connected to SG-1. I'm shrugging off the cancellation, but I know others aren't and I feel for you; I've been there. I wish the execs had just sat down together and said, "Hey, what do you think about this being the last season? We can let everyone know ahead of time and let the fans prepare for that." But, as we all know, execs aren't the classiest people in the world. Or maybe they're busy and fans aren't important enough to them, whatever.

My bottom line: while I'm not weeping and damning the Sci-Fi/MGM/Wright & company, I do feel for those that are.

And those that are weeping and damning are doing something rather interesting to fight back.

Sorry We're the Wrong Demographic
[livejournal.com profile] amireal has started an interesting movement cleverly titled Sorry We're the Wrong Demographic. Please read all about it at her post, but I can summarize thusly:

If you've ever walked into a comic book store and had people stare. . . .

If you've ever been asked, "You watch that show?" . . . .

If you've ever been asked, "So, who are you buying that for?" . . . .

THIS IS THE FAN CAMPAIGN FOR YOU!

The entire goal is to reveal the faces of fans who are "The Wrong Demographic," and hopefully make the showrunners, producers, networks aware that the show they may be marketing to one demographic is actually hitting a different demographic.

[livejournal.com profile] amireal notes that even though this started with SGA, she wants to go beyond that, so anime fans, TMNT fans, Harry Potter fans—this is for you, too.

I really think this is wonderful and I applaud [livejournal.com profile] amireal and everyone who's going to participate.

They Cancelled My Frikkin' Show: Part 234

  • Aug. 21st, 2008 at 6:37 AM
theemdash: (SGA Comic)
On the off chance that someone on my flist missed it: SGA Ends Its Run After 5 Seasons

I'm a little surprised that they're ending it now, but only because I was expecting them to get to 7 seasons. No real reason for that other than: 7 is a nice number for series, I didn't expect them to go 10 years like SG-1, and I thought the success of the SG-1 movie franchise would keep the show on the air longer. But I'm not shocked that this happened.

I'll post reactions later (it's quite early and I had a late night), but there's the news if you missed it when it broke last night.

I've seen this on a few journals (most notably with [livejournal.com profile] princessofg and [livejournal.com profile] tenaya) and I have to post it because it's exactly how I feel about fandom and why I try not to put down my friends' favorite shows (also why I will give shows repeated chances).

Your Friends Are Not Watching the Same Show You Are (And That's Okay)

[livejournal.com profile] teyana did something interesting with this and named the shows she's watching and I saw that and thought, "Yes, I have to do that." So, I'm doing that.

These Are The Shows I’m Watching

Angel )

Firefly )

SGA & Spider-Man

I wanted to post about these 2 things before I forget them like everything else. :P

So, [livejournal.com profile] lord_varos has been attached to Guitar Hero every night since he bought it. I hadn't seen him play any of Guitar Hero 2 until this morning, though. He made a point of showing me the name of his band: Rodney Roks Atlantis. Best band name ever. *snickers*

Also, [livejournal.com profile] lindentreeisle is one of the most evil people ever. Yesterday afternoon, instead of encouraging me to finish off the work week by completing the end of my chapter, she posted links to scans from Ultimate Spider-Man. This included:

#52, Spidey Being a Teenage Boy About a Chick Fight
#85, Which Can Only Be Summarized as: HOW OLD ARE YOU?!

#109, Kingpin Being an Evil Business Genius
#12, a Possible Reason for Kingpin Being So Evil in #109

And the best one: #67, Spider-Man and Wolverine SWITCH BODIES

This led to me calling [livejournal.com profile] lord_varos (already at the comic store) and demanding that be buy me any TBP of Ultimate Spider-Man. So, now I have Vol 1 and Vol 2. Now ask me if I've yet caught up in Astonishing X-Men or TMNT. Ha!

I totally love Spidey. And Ultimate Spidey rocks. He's just so cute (even though he looks like he's about 14). So, anyone have Ultimate Spidey icons? I feel the need to have more than one Spidey icon. And I may or may not be coerced into writing Ultimate Spider-Man fic. Hee.
