Now's A Good Time to DW

Well, it's good that I was already planning to be more active on DW. Timing, huh? In that regard, I have some questions about importing:

Does anyone know if there is a way to import your LJ to a DW account that you've already imported to and have been using? Personally I imported back in April 2009 and then kind of didn't use my DW, so I have 8 years of LJ posts not archived here. I can do the slow-monkey route (and I will), but if there's an easy way to do it, I'd love to.

Similarly, I have [livejournal.com profile] getyourwordsout that has never been imported, but is currently a thriving DW community. Would importing override the previous posts (many of which were cross-posted anyway, so we'd have two of them)?

Basically, I'm trying to get my ducks in a row on archiving. Thanks!

Quick Flist Cleanup

Removed a few journals/communities in which interests seem to have parted ways or I haven't interacted with in a long time. Honestly, it was just a few people and if we've talked in the past month, you don't need to worry. (Roadie, I'm sure you're checking anyway.)

If we are parting ways at this time, I wish you the best. As always, please feel free to friend/defriend as you will.

Monday was my lj-versary. I've been poking your intertubes since 2004 which makes it 6 years I've been here. (HIIIIIIIIIII.)

Let's stat this bitch.

Flist Trim

Just finished a flist trim. I was looking specifically to cut people with whom I am out of touch and with whom I currently seem to share few interests. If you were just cut and feel you were cut in error, please comment to me here.

Thanks!

Dreamwidth

I have no intentions of leaving lj since I dropped the cash for a permanent account a couple years ago and am still reaping the benefits. I did, however, make a Dreamwidth account on the off chance that some of my friends might high tail it over there, never to be heard from again (though I've yet to see anyone on my flist say that).

Unlike my InsaneJournal, Vox, and GreatestJournal, I plan to actually use DreamWidth!

How Will You There Be Different From You Here?
I'm planning to use the crosspost feature (and pray to GOD that lj creates a feature like that) and will be updating both journals that way. It's likely that I'll still have more content on lj because I expect that I'll forget and do my normal thing of being on lj already and just posting there because I'm lazy. (That will mostly affect f-locked posts.)

Mostly, there will not be different from here unless there people get more chatty in the comments.

What Do You Need From Me?
I need you to fill out this poll. There have been a ton of announcements of DW account-creations, but since I didn't have one, I hadn't been friending people. From here on out, I'll try to comment to remind you guys that I have one and that my username is the same, but going back to find them all kind of makes me want to faint, so . . . let's do it this way.

[Poll #1394727]

Also, I don't have invite codes at this time. If/when I get some, I'll let you guys know.

Some Defriending

I did somewhat random defriending this morning. I was only looking to cull a few friends and communities in which I feel our interests have wandered. Partly this is to just trim up my flist so I'm not scrolling past so much and partly this is to get a flist that better reflects where my head is these days.

If you feel like I've defriended you in error, or if you already have me friended and would like to make your voice heard so I can get to know you better and add you to my flist, feel free to respond here.

These days my journal tends to gravitate around:

    SG-1
    Harry Potter (& Wizard Rock)
    Whedon
    A bit o' Bandom
    a little FMA
    a little Saiyuki
    editing (& work grumblings)
    Writing, writing, writing
    steampunk

And it's always defriending amnesty, so if you'd like to part ways with me, please go right ahead.

Flagging Adult Content

  • Nov. 30th, 2007 at 11:03 AM
theemdash: (M Headdesk)
For those just tuning in, lj's latest "Save the Children" efforts include a nifty little item that allows you to flag for adult content.

You can flag your own entries (or entire journal) as "Adult Concepts" or "Explicit Adult Content" (basically the equivalents of PG-13 and NC-17).

You can also flag other people's content! YAY!!! When flagging other people's content, you'll be given five options to describe the content: "Explicit Adult Content," "Offensive Content," "Hate Speech," "Illegal Activity," or "Nude Images of Minors." Basically, if an entry is flagged several times as "Explicit Adult Content" or "Offensive Content," it will be reviewed by the Abuse Prevention Team and, if it is determined that the post should be flagged, you'll be asked to flag it. The other three options will prompt the user to the Abuse Reporting System (as those three options violate TOS).

You can read all about it at this post in [livejournal.com profile] lj_biz. [livejournal.com profile] marta (who is responsible for answering our questions, apparently) says that she will try to do a summary or wrap-up on this with the most common questions. Or at least answer everyone who asks.

However, I'm compiling a few answers to important questions that I've found in the comments. All questions and answers are in my own words for the purpose of providing a summary. Links go to [livejournal.com profile] marta's answers.

Information They Should Have Included In Their Post )

I only went through the first page of comments, but if people find other answers to questions that should appear here, please feel free to let me know. I don't mind being a comprehensive hub.

LJ-versary!

Today is the celebration of my 3rd year on lj. It’s hard to believe that 3 measly years ago I still thought that blogging was the most self-important thing I’d ever heard of. “Ha ha!,” she says self-importantly.

So, I have not done anything cool like written a multi-fandom fic that sums up my life-and-times thus far on lj. (Not that I was planning to . . .) Instead, I have boring stats. Yawn.

After three years, here’s what my journal has to show for itself:

143 Interests, including such unique gems as: daniel’s jacket, dark blue bad, mcgillion hugs, sanzo’s reading glasses, and subtracting turtles from crabs

160 Friends who think I’m cool enough to grace their friends lists

104 Communities that allow me to be a member even if it’s only to post the extremely infrequent Buffy fanfic

2,038 Journal entries which averages to 1.86 journal entries per day. Heh. Not addicted.

35,495 Comments posted, most of which are probably to [livejournal.com profile] roadrunner1896

46,564 Comments received, most of which are probably from [livejournal.com profile] roadrunner1896 ;)

Thanks to everyone who comments in my journal (or whose journal I comment on)! It’s you guys who make this place worthwhile for me. *hugs*

Also, I’d just like to mention that 2 years ago, right about this time, I was waiting at the airport for [livejournal.com profile] roadrunner1896. I miss you, sweetie. Two years is too long to go without seeing one of my best friends. *smooches*
