I figure that since I finished reading Vol. 13 a while ago and dragonbetween is here (to pick up her volumes of FMA) I should probably make my post about it.

Okay, that flailing review was a little more lackluster than usual but I'm very, very tired. I promise that the next one will be more exciting (and coherent).

As some of you know, I'm wont to write filks and crazy fandom related poetry (*coughlimerickscough*). So, I also enjoy it when other people do the same. And I enjoy it even more when the creators do it. Because: Hilarity!

I'd just like to say that I have finally started reading The Golden Compass, so I'm not entirely in manga-land right now. (But when I'm groggy it's a little easier to get through a comic than a novel.)

(Actually the research paper was on something else and this was a loosely related topic and infinitely more interesting, so, um. . . .) Since then I've taken to critiquing tv shows saying things like, "There's no way that fire would have turned that bone to ash" and then explaining to everyone within hearing distance why that fire wouldn't have turned that bone to ash.

Recently I saw a show in which a fire melted bone. And just, no, no way can a fire melt bone. Bone doesn't melt. Right?

Well, while trying to decide what to NaBloPoMo today, I thought I'd google a little information on whether or not bone can melt. And apparently, bone can melt. Color me stunned.

Bone begins to melt around 1600 °C (2912 °F). To put that into perspective, a crematorium generates 870-980 °C (1600-1800 °F). Cremated ashes will have some bone fragments because all of the bone doesn't turn to ash (though most funeral homes will powder the remaining bone fragments).

Despite evidence that bone can melt, I still think that particular show was wrong, wrong, wrong because keeping an open fire hot enough to completely incinerate a body is difficult enough, but adding an additional 600+ °C would be impossible. To burn a fire that hot you need an accelerant and a closed area. Open fires need not apply, Mr. Mustang.

In case you are wondering, the two episodes that make me go into my bone-ash-melt rage are SG-1's "The First Commandment" (yeah, total ash? I don't think so) and FMA's "Laws and Promises" (melting bone, possible, but not in this case).

This post in no way advocates playing with fire.

I'm not sure if my FMA-friendly flisters are entrenched enough in the fandom to answer this question, but I figured I'd go for it and see what comes of it. . . .

Does anyone know anything about the frat regs in the State Military?

I'm assuming this isn't something that's been addressed in canon but is probably something that does come up in fanon at least a little. And guessing from the way fanfic writers sometimes operate, I'm assuming that the fanon opinion is that there are no frat regs of any kind (which, how boring), but I thought I'd ask if anyone knows if there is a fanon opinion on frat regs.

FMA has exploded my brain yet again. Despite warnings that the movie isn't all that great, we watched it anyway and my brain still exploded. And then there was flailing. That dragonbetween and katilara witnessed first hand. I believe it was hilarious as they laughed at me a lot.

The evening ended with a standing display of my happiness about Harry, Ed, and Daniel (independently, not together). And me physically turning in a circle as I got wound up. (There was also an important winding down process.) In general, The Em in her natural Fangirl Habitat can only be witnessed, not described.

Before the FMA-athon there was an amusing encounter at Starbucks ( which included a comment about fisting )
