I have finally—finally—started archiving my fics on AO3! :D
I had 2 up from previous ficathons, but now I've got 7 stories loaded and I'm so proud of myself. After a lot of indecision, I finally decided that I'm going to:
I'm still deciding what to do with drabbles (grouping vs not)—but for now I can start uploading all the longer fic or the fic that is So Good It Must Stand Alone.
Also, because I just CANNOT stop myself, I'm doing a read on each story before posting and cleaning up some language and punctuation. It's not much, just enough to give my older stories a clean polish. (OMG there are so many semi-colons.)
Since I'm technically new to AO3, I have some QUESTIONS.
- If there's no collection for a ficathon (specifically J/D Ficathon XI), is it kosher to list that in collections?
- How do you let someone know something is in a season if it's not tied to a specific episode? (Basically: is there a tag for that? If not, should I list the season in the summary?)
- If you click a link below and look at the header info, is there anything I'm not doing right/should tweak?
Anyway, if you haven't read my stories in a long time, go give them some love on AO3. (Yes, I'm going to post a link round-up every few days. It is my Winter Holiday gift to you.)

I had 2 up from previous ficathons, but now I've got 7 stories loaded and I'm so proud of myself. After a lot of indecision, I finally decided that I'm going to:
- take my time and upload 1–3 stories a day*
- try to upload stories from different fandoms each day**
- immediately backdate stories I don't like so much
- eventually backdate all stories, but I'd like for the good stuff to get renewed love
- skip fandoms I wrote only for friends
*on days I upload any
**at some point I will run out of other fandoms because OMG I HAVE WRITTEN SO MUCH SG-1 FIC

If there's not a collection, by all means make a tag for it anyway.
Also you can put the Season in there as a tag if there's not an existing tag for it, and it's okay if it's not tied to a specific episode. (There should be tags for many of the episodes, though. And for the seasons without a specific episode. At least in my experience. And of course some eps and seasons draw more fanfic than others.)
One thing I have learned about the AO3 is that people search it in very different ways than I do.
I tend to look for a pairing, or a fandom, and when I find an author I like, I read everything they've posted.
Most fans using the AO3 do not do that. They search for tags that inform them that the fic has tropes or sex acts that they love, and they read fic based on that. This seems to be more important even than pairing or even fandom.
So the bottom line is, put as many tags as you can possibly think of on your fic if you want to get the most readers.
For example: I have two linked stories about Jack and Daniel in a relationship, both are post-series, and one is the sequel to the other. I wrote the one and then a few weeks later realized I had more to say and wrote the other one. One fic gets way more readers than the other, because it has the trope of WEDDING. Both fic are very similar in tone, style, etc., but the one with the popular trope has way more hits.
You would think that once people read and enjoy "Scenes from a Distance" that they would go back and read "Perfect Distance," but they don't do that.
The more tags the better, and the popular tropes like ANGST or certain popular sex acts get a lot of readers.
Just my two cents.
Thanks for posting your fic; I am sure I'll find stuff I missed through the years as you go on there.
And thanks for being here. SG1 fandom is very grateful for your presence.
I didn't see that Ficathon listed, but I saw others. (Actually, I think the one just after it might also have not been coming up when I was looking—some of them were out of order, making it more difficult to tell.)
Okay, so for the seasons I found there were tags that say "Season/Series #" but then I wasn't sure if that was useful because wouldn't that tag then be EVERY show that has a 2nd season, or 7th season, etc? It made me very hesitant to use it. Episodes were no problem, and yeah, I had to make a tag for "Prisoners" (really, guys? no one else has tagged fic for that episode?), but that was much more cut and dry.
HUH. That is some very interesting information about how people use the tags on AO3. I can see doing that to a certain extent—like how I was searching for Season 4 fic because I was watching Season 4—but like, I want to read about specific characters, and certainly in specific fandoms! Oh man, kids these days. ;)
I'm so far removed from some of my fics (and from tagging at AO3) that I'm not quite sure what tags to try. Like the Daniel/Sha're fic? Angst, yes. And it's pre-series, but then it's like, mostly Sha're observing that Daniel is obsessed and watching his obsession shift back to the Stargate? How do I tag for that? LOL.
I feel like you caught most of my stuff, but hopefully soon I'll be slipping in a few totally new things as well. ;)
I am so, so, so glad to be falling back into SG-1. Even though fandom is different and I'm going to have to figure out where it is and where to find conversation, it is such a relief to sink back into it. I'm coming back after the worst time of my life and finding that all of that horror didn't change me that much. In fact, I'm finding that the things I find admirable in my favorite characters are things I find admirable in myself too. I'm remembering that so much that I love about SG-1 is what was stolen from me during those years, and coming back is pretty much like coming back to life.
This is the main reason I'm starting with the big stuff. I think once I can filter those out of my spreadsheet (because of course I have a spreadsheet) I'll be able to figure out the drabbles and other short fic under 1000 words.
Also, I have a weird situation with a handful of drabbles or short fics in fandoms I didn't write in often that don't really match up, so I'm wondering how on earth to tag for that or list the title. (For example, one friendship, one explicit sex.)
I think if you have drabbles for a fandom that are wildly different in tone or pairing or rating, it might make sense to separate them.
