The Sound of One Hand Tapping

Every time I see this Speed Typing thing pop up on my flist, I do it. And I'm generally around 75 wpm. I type one-handed a lot (while I'm drying my hair or brushing my teeth, you pervs), so I thought I'd see how fast I type with just my left hand.

Touch Typing

*snickers* That's kind of amusing.

I can't touch type, but I'm a reasonably fast typist when I'm typing on my own, like here. Copying something goes sporadically because I have to read a few words, type, read, type, read, type, etc. :)

I got 37 wpm, still. I'm proud of it.

37 wpm isn't shabby for someone who doesn't spend most of her day on the computer.

I think it's funny how fast we can type just one handed. (Actually my score really cracks me up because it's over half of my two-handed score.)

My right-hand only was only like 36 wpm, I think. Which makes sense as I don't get as much one-handed practice with that hand.

I couldn't get through the test trying to type with just my right hand. My left hand keep jumping on the keyboard even when I was trying to keep it away. You know part of the reason why it is easier to type with just your left hand instead of just with your right is because there are way more words that can be formed with just the left hand keys than can be formed with just the right. Therefore the left hand has an advantage with the typing test because it is already used to typing the words on its own, or something.

That makes sense. Originally the keyboard was designed to slow typing down-- so keys wouldn't jam-- so more commonly used words would be on the less-dominant side.

I got 138 WPM/6 words wrong two handed 0_o. I think that's the first time I've ever taken one of those...

Holy crap! Is there smoke when you type?

Haha! Man, now I wish I would have saved it before closing the window. I'll have to take it again later...

Are you supposed to go as fast as you can when you take those, though? Because I was trying pretty hard- if I typed that fast daily, I'd kill myself :)

Man, that's a significent drop. I wonder if I'm tired, or if the word set was tougher.

That's pretty slow considering it's two handed...but oh well, I'm sick at the moment, so there's my excuse! ;-P
But I loved taking the test, it's fun! =)

That's BOTH hands. Gah. :(

I think I'm faster when not typing single words as I can get a rhythm going when I have sense to help me. Part of my problem is that I'm so Right-Dominant, that I physically cannot co-ordinate all the fingers on my left hand, so I type with my right hand plus two fingers.

I scored higher than this when I was tested a few years back upon joining a temping agency. But the script there was runninf text... so context is all.

Oh well. It's not like I have to speed-type for a living.

You, my friend, are FAST. I know I'm ultra-SLOW... but even so...

Typing the single words was more difficult. I prefer when there are actual sentences.

I pride myself that while I'm SLOW, I always score 100% accuracy on these things.

Then I go and type "runninf" for "running" in comments. *SIGH* I hate typos.

PS - I've finally answered your questions in my journal.

I got 54 wpm with two hands. I feel this is a good thing, because I almost didn't get into the Ad/PR program at school. Not because of my GPA, because I was near the top there, but because you have to type 35wpm and at the time I could type 36. :P

Okay, that's just unworldly! :D I can do up to 60wpm with both hands but just one hand i'm like 25wpm.

you go em!
