Previous Episode: Episode 1.09 “Thor’s Hammer” Fun Facts.
Episode 1.10 “The Torment of Tantalus”
Planetary Tally: Ernest’s planet (aka Heliopolis)
Season/Series Total: 11
Episodic References: the movie--General West is mentioned by Catherine, also Catherine is in the episode
Quote(s) of the Week:
Jack: Whole boxes of this material could be missing.
Daniel: No, the Pentagon said this was everything.
Jack: Oh, please. The Pentagon’s lost entire countries.
Daniel: Catherine, I wasn’t supposed to show you this. Actually, I wasn’t supposed to show you any of this.
Hammond: Colonel, are you aware of the request Dr. Jackson has most currently tabled?
(Jack looks at Daniel for a moment.)
Jack: You gotta go that one step further, don’t you?

”You gotta go that one step further, don’t you?”—Jack
Introducing: the first time the ‘Gate is manually dialed
Hello, Again: Catherine Langford (recurring since she was in the movie)
Stargate Mythos: the ‘Gate was opened in 1945; Ernest’s planet isn’t listed on the Abydos Cartouche which means the Goa’uld have not visited there (providing unquestionable proof that the Goa’uld did not create the Stargate system); four races of aliens met at Heliopolis, sort of like a United Nations of the Stars--one race is identified at this time as the Asgard; the MALP can give visual confirmation of the DHD, but it doesn’t necessarily mean the DHD is operational; the ‘Gate can be dialed manually
Fashion Week: Green and black with flak jackets--very colorful.
Daniel wears a plaid shirt and a jacket--it's so geeky! ::squee::

Auto Destruct: Season/Series Total: 3
Full Body Exam:
Laid Up:
Daniel: Season/Series Total: 1
Jack: Season/Series Total: 6
Sam: Season/Series Total: 2
Brain Washing 101:
Daniel: Season/Series Total: 1
Jack: Season/Series Total: 2
Sam: Season/Series Total: 1
Chain of Command: Jack tells Hammond he hadn’t seen Daniel in a while, though I suspect he knew that Daniel was questioning Catherine about the experiments on the ‘Gate in ’45. Jack refers to Hammond as a “teddy bear.”
Putzing with Props:
Daniel’s Dead: Season/Series Total: 1
Murray Alert: Season/Series Total: 2
Techno-Babble: Sam figures out that because Ernest’s planet isn’t on the Abydos Cartouche, the Goa’uld haven’t been there. Sam wires the DHD power source directly into the ‘Gate, only to have the DHD plummet into the ocean after she succeeds. Sam notes that the ‘Gate element is a super-conductor and converts and stores energy, but the inside wheel will only unlock when it stores up enough power (ie. a lightning strike).

Extra krispy.
Good Luck, SG-1:
There’s Always Room for Jello:
Stargate Scorin’:
Daniel: Season/Series Total: 2

Daniel Obsession:
What’s the Daniel of it?: Daniel watches film from the experiments done on the ‘Gate in 1945 and discovers that not only did they open the ‘Gate, but they sent someone through. Daniel gets insubordinate and pays Catherine a visit and tells her about the SGC--I love him. After convincing General Hammond to send SG-1 on a rescue mission, Daniel is introduced to Ernest Littlefield’s Heliopolis and the “meaning of life stuff.” Daniel is obsessed with the “book” and spends a lot of time studying it. Daniel and Jack argue about the need for staying and Jack finally convinces Daniel to leave.
Translation Time/Artifact Alley: Daniel explains that Heliopolis was an ancient Egyptian city that served as a repository of knowledge and as a meeting place; it was also the central place of worship for Ra. There are four distinct languages found at Heliopolis. Daniel figures out that atoms are a truly universal language as they are the most basic elements common to all life.

Shooting a Load: Season/Series Total: 1
Mop Up, Aisle 5: 5--Daniel talking to Catherine, he stares at her so intently ::drool::; Daniel and Jack on either side of Catherine (I never thought I’d be jealous of a 64 year-old woman); Daniel discovering that atoms are a universal language (this happens at least twice); Daniel looking all serious when Ernest tries to convince him to leave

She is in a very good place.
Jack was really hot in this episode, too. Guh.
A personal note: Reason why I’m like Daniel #112: We’re both obsessive.
SG-1 Hug-Fest:
This episode is also special because it is one big SGC love-in (either that, or old people are just huggable). Observe:

We love you Catherine!

Well, this is awkward. (Check out Jack’s face. Priceless!)

End of the episode hug-fest.

Daniel: Do we hug?
Jack: No, we’re too manly.

Comments
I found it odd that it didn't get commented upon earlier.
This is why I read slash before bed.
...that's why? To keep you quiet? I would think it would have the opposite effect.
Yeah, I have a few lost comments in my email. I'm trying to get through some now. I'm down to 88! :)

No! Because of the pretty. But it usually does keep me quiet. Except for the involuntary squeals of delight. Or groaning caused by bad grammer.
hey good job! that's
