Love and Firefly (Mostly)

Oooh, Lookie-loo, Back To An SG-1 Layout
Since I’m already starting to mourn SG-1’s demise, I switched back to an SG-1 layout. I think we worked out all the bugs from this one, but if someone notices something weird, drop me a line. [livejournal.com profile] theemdash

Also, *waves to [livejournal.com profile] jissa* ;)

All You Need Is Love
I want to thank everyone for the nice and lovely comments they left at the Love Meme. Those comments on page 5 have really warmed my day. :D *huggles her sweet, sweet flist*

Also, I’d just like to give a welcome to the various new people who I have friended recently. I’m going to attempt to remember everyone from over the past month or so:

*waves to [livejournal.com profile] _minxy_, [livejournal.com profile] autumnxhild, [livejournal.com profile] baka_gaijin, [livejournal.com profile] charmedstrange1, [livejournal.com profile] green_grrl, [livejournal.com profile] kay_brooke, [livejournal.com profile] paian, [livejournal.com profile] princessofg, and [livejournal.com profile] secondalto*

Now, my arm is tired.

My Feelings Are So Mixed They Could Be A Smoothie
Apparently July is going to bring us a Special Edition of Serenity. And we’ve got the word from Joss the Boss, so I’d say it’s pretty solid. Exciting? Yes! Aggravating? Hell yes!

On one hand, I’m thrilled with the idea of getting all the Region 4 special features (which were a hell of a lot more than what we got) and the idea of the Tam Sessions and cast commentary sends my spine a tingling.

On the other hand: Why the frak didn’t they release this in the first place?! It’s not like they didn’t know that Firefly has rabid fans that would shell out $10 more for a special edition when the DVD was first released. (I know, I know, marketing, profit, bleh.)

I’m really tired of new movies getting special edition releases several months to a year after the initial release. I understand remastered and xx-number-of-years anniversary editions, but new frelling movies? Is that really necessary?

Oh well: yay for possible cast commentary! The commentary by Nathan Fillion and Alan Tudyk on “War Stories” is one of my favorites from the Firefly DVDs. In fact, when I watch that episode, I usually watch it with the commentary. Plus I love that cast so much. *crosses fingers*

Rant over. I still love you, Joss. (Because you own my soul, you fraking genius.)

Thanks! I was running this one for a little while in the fall but was having serious problems with the coding. I think we ironed out everything, but I have this feeling that there was one thing remaining that we didn't fix. *shrug* I guess I'll find out.

I tried looking at your new layout earlier, but the banner wasn't showing up for me. It could just be my work computer, though. Sometimes it goes crazy.

Eek, that's a bit worrying. I have the image hosted at Photobucket, so I don't know if it would be a problem over there or not. :/ If anyone else says anything, I might move the image to my own server. :)

I will buy it because I am Joss Whedon's Bitch, but I'm not going to be happy about it. And I swear to Joss, if there's a Super Special Edition OMG, I will kill someone.

Also, they really should name it the Firefly Edition (to strengthen the link to the tv show since newbies tend to not get it).

I totally agree about the re-release thing. Sooo frustrating! But War Crimes commentary is soooo the best thing ever, I wonder if the cast commentary can top it?

I think that if they did something similar to the LotR commentary, they could beat it. And if you don't know, the LotR cast commentary is basically a well-edited compliation of different recordings. Like, in FotR,, Billy and Dom are in one group, and Christopher Lee in another, Elijah and Sean in another, and whoever else in other groups (I don't recall, it's been awhile since I've watched it). It was really nice because it wasn't a bunch of people talking over each other and you could really get a sense of the fun they had and also get some creative insights.

Um, Saturday is the 10th Anniversary of Buffy. OOOOH! Come over on Saturday and your introduction to Buffy will begin!! We can watch at least the first two episodes. *bounces*

Um, yes and yes.

Since I don't have anything else going on this Sat. I was thinking 300 and/or anime, but Buffy works just as well. And I already have an idea for something to make for the special occasion. But I'm also open to other ideas from the more Buffy-knowledgable. =D

Ok, then I'll guess Haruhi, in the Music Room, with the Vase. *snickers*

The last time I threw a Buffy party I made red velvet cupcakes and decorated them with various Buffy symbols. You know I'm good with icing.

And that sounds much dirtier than I intended. Heh.

I think Nick is hanging out with Joe that day, so Buffy time would be a good choice.

Ok, then I'll guess Haruhi, in the Music Room, with the Vase. *snickers*

But dirtier is more fun! ;)

What I was thinking about was grabbing you and Nick, and Joe if he was free, to catch a 300 matinee. But if they're going to be playing WoW at CoC, then that might not work out.

Yay! =D

And how can you not love a show with a man that pretty? *points to icon* ;) Yes, one of my main reasons for loving SG-1 is entirely shallow; I admit it.

FYI - I am blaming you for my current writing problem. I was trying to write a companion piece to my J/D fic 'Bad Timing.' And I cannot write POV for Cameron. I'm blaming you and your anti-Daniel/Cameron-ness. ;P
[identity profile] green-grrl.livejournal.com wrote:

I am teh ev0l?

So, in Bad Timing, D/C was this one-time thing. Either Cam was cool with that, or he's pining that it wasn't more. Are you going to angst him or not?

(And, see, my whole thing with D/C is that Daniel isn't that close to Cam. Or anybody except Jack -- and to an extent Sam and Teal'c. Daniel is an extremely private, snarky, bull-headed force of nature who's been through Hell, death and rebirth. Cam is a puppy. He's proving to be loyal, brave and, well, reckless, but he's not anywhere near inside Daniel's walls. So either he recognizes that Daniel is emotionally untouchable and was fine with a physical one-off, or he wants to get inside Daniel's defenses and he'll never be able to. Onscreen, I actually see him trying to get inside Sam's and Teal'c's trust just as much. Maybe his one-off was an attempt at team-building? There are so many places to go with it. Anyway, just some quickie meta from my brain, to see if anything resonates. I do adore Cam, just not with Daniel.)

*snickers*

I was planning to angst him because I am incapable of writing long, happy fic (seriously, I think it's a disease). Actually, what I want to do is write something nice and lengthy with a development of a one-sided romance from Cam's POV (more or less written like 5 episode tags). My other option is a one-off from Daniel's POV which I could probably fart in my sleep. Also, it would wind up being mostly PWP.

You can see my delimma, right?

And your meta is pretty much how I view Daniel/Cameron. I don't think of them as being an OTP or even being in any sort of lasting emotional relationship. I think Cam could be head-over-heels in love with anyone from SG-1, but Daniel just is never going to get that emotionally tied to Cameron. Friendship? Yes. Something deeper? Highly unlikely.

Also, I think that as of Season 10 Cameron gets his team members, but in early Season 9 he was too busy idolizing them to understand that they might not want him pawing at them.

Oh, yes.

Of course he'd have to be completely blind to not get that Daniel's a prickly bastard. Maybe five ep tags of increasing crush, and then, wow! -- consummation! And then, oh... that wasn't a break-through, just an aberration. Woe.

Yes, yes, that's basically what I was thinking. But Cameron—why are you being so elusive? I just want to write you. *whimpers* (He's probably hiding from the inevitable Jack/Daniel angst.)

Yes, the Buffy slim packs . . . *drool* And the collector's edition is nice, but it only has 1 additional special feature. If it had more than that (like, maybe the unaired pilot, more bloopers, and more commentaries from Joss), I probably would have dropped the money on it.

Speaking of Stargate....Uri and I have a question for you.

We're watching "Within the Serpent's Grasp" (season 1 finale) and we were wondering if it is a different cut of the episode that originally aired. For one, we thought this was the ep that Jack says "Mmmm...Go'uld TV" (but we could be wrong) and also because Jack says clearly "That's bullshit!" in regards to Ska'ara saying 'nothing of the host remains'.

....uh...I may have just answered the swearing question...was that because it originally aired on Showtime?

Yes, the episode originally aired on Showtime and they could curse there. (And show full-frontal nudity of Sha're in "Children of the Gods".)

For one, we thought this was the ep that Jack says "Mmmm...Go'uld TV" (but we could be wrong) and also because Jack says clearly "That's bullshit!" in regards to Ska'ara saying 'nothing of the host remains'.

Jack says, "Think it gets Showtime," actually. ;) Did they cut that part out of the Sci-fi version? I'm not sure I've ever watched that episode on Sci-fi.
[identity profile] amazonsun.livejournal.com wrote:

Oh right...I forgot about the nudity! Heh.

Hmmm...I wonder if they just changed that line? When I looked it up on tv.com, it had both quotes noted, but it didn't say what version they may have come from.

I never had Showtime, so I didn't start watching the show until it got picked up by Sci-fi.

Also, I'm not quite as Daniel obsessed as I was then . . . or maybe I've just gotten a bit calmer about it. ;) Plus, if I continue, I'm going to have to count the number of times Teal'c says indeed. Heehee! That is *so* something I've wanted to do ever since he mentioned it. If you start up again, I volunteer for this!

On a similar note, I've always wished I had enough RL Stargate buddies that we could sit around and have Stargate parties with drinking games- like, every time you hear "indeed", "unscheduled offworld activation" or "jack!" (exclamation point required), you have to take a jello shot. :) Or something like that. Wouldn't that be fun? X)
