Aware That Everyone Is Possibly Sick Of This

I'm well aware that many of you are probably already sick of this, but I'm still terribly incensed.

Here's a list of links that I've run across this morning. I've sorted them by category to help people who want to continue reading about this.

UPDATED: New links are marked NEW. New designation has been removed from all links from May 30.

General Information: WFI & Deletions
[livejournal.com profile] liz_marcs Posts
Liz posts her reply from WFI and her response back. At best it appears that WFI is a concerned organization who is extremely misguided. At worst . . . eh, read [livejournal.com profile] liz_marcs's email.
Liz posts another roundup this morning (most of which is linked here). She also includes more information about WFI, including that their first posted letter against LJ was dated April 6, which means actual pedophiles (who might monitor watchdog sites) had 2 months to edit their ljs.
Liz continues to give great summaries and links.
NEW: Liz has her latest update and it includes information regarding Alternatives to LJ. It sounds like people have mostly been migrating to GreatestJournal, but InsaneJournal may be the better choice. I, for one, will be checking it out this evening.

Reactions & Links Posts
Some people suspect that visiting the WFI site will install spyware on your computer. This appears to be true.

[livejournal.com profile] nleseul has a wonderful recap post with insightful commentary. Definitely worth a read.
NEW: [livejournal.com profile] melayneseahawk has a reaction post with the most amusing filk of The Firefly theme song: You Can't Take My Porn From Me.

And fandom_wank has gotten this. It's equal parts informative and sarcastic, giving me a necessary laugh over this bullshit.

LOTS of links at this post, including many that are linked here.
NEW: [livejournal.com profile] madame_minnie posts links (many of which are repeated here). I have not linked to some because my links contain similar information and others because I may not agree with what is being proposed or because newer links have changed the meaning of those posts.

List of Suspended/Unsuspended Journals
[livejournal.com profile] catrinella has a great resource post including a list of some suspended & deleted journals ([livejournal.com profile] lolaraincoat is still tracking, also). I'm reposting other links that I think would be of interest/use to my flist.
There are a number of survivor-support communities that are reported as being suspended. The number of journals listed here is sickening.
Another list of deleted journals. Most of this information has been reported elsewhere.
NEW: [livejournal.com profile] lolaraincoat lists journals that in her eyes were unfairly suspended. So far none of these journals have been reinstated.
NEW: Fandom and Fiction Journals Being Reinstated!

LJ's Actions
Users report that lj did nothing when they reported communities addressing questionable content and so we all ask, "What makes WFI special?" (The answer is that they contacted lj's advertisers.)
A testimony of a report of abuse that lj could do nothing about contrasted against the current form emails going out regarding suspensions. Lj, open mouth, insert foot
CNET News.com reports on the deletions in the article Mass deletion sparks LiveJournal revolt. Comments from Barak Berkowitz, chairman and chief executive of Six Apart, appear in this article.

NEW: LJ speaks!
NEW: Perverted Justice, a site that has listed LJ as "an aggressive Corporate Sex Offender" even thinks LJ's current actions are retarded. You'll have to scroll to see their write up. OR I have posted it here

Groups Against Strikethrough 2007
[livejournal.com profile] fandom_counts has no content, it is only designed for fandom journals to weigh in and be counted. It's a way to let lj know exactly how many journals using their service are for fandom.
Over at GreatestJournal, a group called fandomtossed has appeared.
Here we have [livejournal.com profile] innocence_jihad

NEW: Some icons in support of freedom of speech. Most of which I enjoy.

Not really a group, but [livejournal.com profile] bubble_blunder has an interesting essay on how fandom could affect lj but won't.
And on a more positive note, [livejournal.com profile] bookshop has posted an essay on the fandom voice. It is beautiful and uplifting and makes me proud to be part of fandom.

Polls
NEW: [livejournal.com profile] malnpudl has a poll on permanent accounts.
NEW: [livejournal.com profile] fandompays has 2 polls to let lj know the econimic effect this is having on their paid, permanent, and plus account users.

Legal Action & Am I In Danger?
[livejournal.com profile] fandom_lawyers weighs in on Sprikethrough2007.
Most interesting is a comment that WFI has instructions about how to impersonate a child online designed to scare pedophiles straight. Yeah, because that strategy is going to work.
Also, once this has blown over someone suggests changing interests to "the theme of x in fiction".
Userpics: There is a rumor of a user being suspended for for a userpic. It does appear to just be a rumor at this point. Follow-up is here.
Interests: There's an albeit incomplete list of targeted user interests. It doesn't look like it's being updated.

News Articles & Freedom of Speech
We've hit several major online news locations, and I'll link to them for completion's sake, however I'm encouraging people to visit the first new one.
This issue made it to Firefox News in the form of an article that just shakes me: The Purity Police and Fanfic. This is why this whole thing is so terrifying for fandom.
NEW: Boing Boing:
Worth it to follow the links for Warren Ellis and the reminder of how people post blogs as they find information.
NEW: Slashdot
NEW: Digg.com
NEW: Firefox News, Six Apart Deletes 500 LiveJournals, Many Fannish

NEW: [livejournal.com profile] kitsune13 has a List of Published Fiction Containing Illegal Sexual Activities. It is interesting, if nothing else.
NEW: The important distinction between Freedom of Speech rights and LJ's Right to Run LJ as a Business. Please be sure to read the comment by [livejournal.com profile] publius513.

Protecting Your Journal
[livejournal.com profile] xanphibian warns about direct linking in response to WFI "patrolling," I believe.
If you have a paid account you can lock down your journal in one shot.
There are also a number of ways to backup your lj including:
ljarchive Windows only.
ljbook Appears good for any operating system. I used it this morning. If anyone is interested my 2,000+ posts and 45,000+ comments are 6,000+ pages in PDF format. XD
xjournal Mac-friendly, but doesn't save comments.
ljdump Another Mac option.
lj's own export Cross-platform.

I'll try to update this post if anything new crops up.
