theemdash: SG-1 classic team (SG-1 Team)
I meant to start an SG-1 rewatch at the beginning of August so I could get through a couple seasons before DragonCon, but I was too busy drafting and by the time I was hitting bed each night I was too tired to even consider putting in a DVD to fall asleep to.

Today, though, I got home from a writing date and was desperate for some downtime, so I put in my (new) Director's Cut of "Children of the Gods."* By the time Jack's profile hit the screen I was falling in love with this show all over again. One of the things that is most enjoyable is how utterly unprepared the SGC is for dealing with opening their Stargate to the entire universe. The first season is filled with fuck up after fuck up and I adore that the show highlights the complete ineptitude of people who think they can deal with things that are wholly outside of their experience. Of course as the show continues, everyone gains competency, but the first season underscores the reality of what would happen if the American military got their hands on something like the Stargate. As ridiculous and frustrating as this show can be (I'm looking at you, "Citizen Joe"), I think there are good lessons to be learned for military sci-fi.

*I didn't realize/remember the Director's Cut nixed the nudity! Also, I think they added some ~looks between Sam and Jack during the initial briefing. I kind of want to compare now.
