Another of those annoying SG-1 inconsistencies that's been bothering me (and has been exacerbated by the fact that I'm currently watching "There But For the Grace of God"):
Each Stargate has 38 symbols for dialing other worlds plus the point of origin, equaling the 39 symbols on the 'gate.
The point of origin for each world is a unique symbol (which means that each 'gate is unique).
THEREFORE, you can't move 'gates around as easily as they do, right? Wouldn't they have to at least reprogram the point of origin symbol to match up to the new point of origin? Which would mean that Daniel couldn't have escaped in "The Serpent's Lair" by dialing out (unless he reprogrammed the 'gate).
Or is someone going to wave his or her hand and say, "correlative update," and we can pretend that all inconsistencies are just a bad dream? (Speaking of which,
lord_varos did just that.)
ETA: I'll go with whatever canon tells me; this is just confusing to me.
