Dear SGA,

I have really tried to get on the SGA-love train. I love the Stargate universe and all the potential, but this last episode just annoyed me for two big reasons.

1. They're still writing Elizabeth.

Up until Sam's second conversation with Davos she wasn't Sam, she was Elizabeth. They were writing Elizabeth's lines coming out of Sam's mouth. And that is such writing crap. Even though Sam is the new leader of Atlantis, she should still be Sam. She should still be the same character we knew on SG-1 with the same motivations and outlook. Moving to Atlantis shouldn't strip her of her moral compass (though Woolsey did talk about a quarantine at the midway station, maybe they remove morality there).

GAH. Seriously. Sam being okay with Ronon's suggestion to "betray them before they betray us"? Yeah. Sounds so much like her. Might I remind everyone that this is the woman who trusted RepliCarter?

GAH.GAH.GAH.

2. The other thing that annoyed me is that Sam was in the damn episode "Prophecy." I can handwave people on Atlantis not making the connections to events that happened on SG-1 because they might not know about everything, but Sam lived through someone being able to foresee events. She told Jonas that he couldn't see the future. She helped disprove that he was seeing the future! WHY DOESN'T SHE SAY SOMETHING ABOUT THAT?!?!?!

Look how easy it would be:

Sam: A few years ago, a member of the SGC developed the ability to see the future.

Sheppard: Been there, done that, huh?

Sam: That's just the thing. He wasn't necessarily seeing the future. They were possible events, sure, but there's no way to predict the possible outcome of our actions in order to change events.

McKay: So we're doomed.

Sam: That's a little pessimistic.

Sheppard: So we might be doomed.

Sam: Pretty much.

Sheppard: Normal day then.

Seriously, that show needs some new blood on their writing staff.

I am continuing to watch SGA, but I may no longer be able to watch with

lord_varos as I keep pausing to moan, groan, and shout at the writers. Though he totally agreed with me about Sam's characterization.

It's SO AWFUL. Plus there was that conversation she had with Sheppard about how she was uncomfortable being in command of all these people OH NOES HOW WILL SHE COPE WITH ALL THE RESPONSIBILITY. Like she's been sitting on her ass doing NOTHING for ten seasons of SG-1.

I didn't mind that conversation as much. We saw her insecurity about being in command in Season 8 and then in Seasons 9 and 10, Mitchell was in command because he was the senior-ranking officer. So I was buying her insecurity. I actually thought it was nice to see her interacting with Sheppard as a friend, HOWEVER there were a lot of lines in there that weren't hers. They were Elizabeth.

They need a little Sam Carter Dialogue 101.

It just seems like they keep writing female characters as uncomfortable in command roles -- they did similar things with Weir -- and the men NEVER say stuff like that. Teyla bonds with other women over insecurity about command decisions, but the men just toddle around like LA DE DA I AM IN CHARGE OH NOES I AM THE MAN THAT I USED TO STICK IT TO.

You are so right! Gar, stupid writers. First you make her moon over Jack, then you turn her into this magical "do-it-all" girl, and then you strip her character completely. What did she ever do to you? Give me back my hard-ass, butch lesbo Captain Carter, please!

Heh heh . . . my complaints also, but that's not even what I'm complaining about here. ;) Because I think I'd rather have Super!Carter than Elizabeth!Sam. At least when she was Super!Carter she sounded like Carter. :P

What's really annoying is that they were getting her right in Season 10. I felt like we were finally seeing Sam again and . . . GAAAH!

Words Jon they fail me. Sam's lack of remembering Jonas' seeing the future stuff from 5 years ago, wtf was that? I miss Elizabeth.

Hopefully "Miller's Crossing" will be made of win, or at least enough pretty that I can forgive it the stupid.

How can you miss Elizabeth? THEY'RE STILL WRITING HER LINES! *headdesk*

They're pretty decent with their McKay-centric episodes, so maybe it'll be good.

I miss Torri as Elizabeth, Sam as Elizabeth is not the same and pretty much teh suck.

I am glad to know I'm not alone in my hate of it. I love Sam. I was looking forward to seeing her as the boss-of-it-all. See how she coped with NOT going through the gate every time it was opened or there was a crisis and she couldn't leave due to her having all this responsibility. Honestly? She's not even getting Elizabeth's lines. She's barely GOT lines. And when she does, they suck. Don't even talk to me about her "action" scenes.

Heh. Have you stopped trying to love it? I'm still trying.

Well, I like what they've been doing with Teyla. Giving her, you know, a life (pun?) of her own. Instead of "hanger on" like poor Ronan. And I was going to say you should write for them too, but there's a strike right now. I know that like me, you support Joss and the strikers and won't cross the lines.

You should write for the show. *nods* The Sam the writers are writing is not the Sam I grew to love. She's not my Sam.

She's not my Sam at all. I used to like Sam. And I was actually starting to like her again (in Season 10) and then they did this. :P They need to stop fucking up Sam. Because it's, like, this thing with her.

I thought of that too. To be all honest, and I love SGA, sometimes it feels like "Saved By The Bell: The New Class" b/c they are kinda repeating storylines that SG-1 already did.

They need to break the gap, especially now that SG-1 is over, and expand their horizons. I mean, they are in a different galaxy...how come everyone speaks English??? That bugs me the most!

I didn't read this, not that it matters, because OMG I am so far behind it's not even funny! *sulks*
