Strikethrough 2007 Post Updated

I've updated my Strikethrough 2007 links post from this morning. All new links are denoted as NEW.

I'm including some especially interesting and important links in this post. Please excuse the redundancy.

Some people suspect that visiting the WFI site will install spyware on your computer. This appears to be true.
[livejournal.com profile] liz_marcs offers some advice on how to prevent possible spyware from WFI.

This issue made it to Firefox News in the form of an article that just shakes me: The Purity Police and Fanfic. This is why this whole thing is so terrifying for fandom. WFI's success in suspending journals means that any organization can get the same idea and just as easily go after slash, erotica, or other adult-oriented communities. Why? Because lj's advertisers might not want to be associated with those ideas.

[livejournal.com profile] bubble_blunder has an interesting essay on how fandom could affect lj but won't.

And on a more positive note, [livejournal.com profile] bookshop has posted an essay on the fandom voice. It is beautiful and uplifting and makes me proud to be part of fandom.

Thanks for the update!

I don't know if you've seen this, but I saw it linked on fandom_wank. It appears Six Apart has responded on the issue a bit here. I haven't had a chance to read it yet so it may be nothing, but I thought I'd link it anyway.
