One. One Musketeer. Ah-ah-ah-ah!

Over the weekend I watched 4 movies which involve musketeers (including the new version of The Three Musketeers which has a very thin veneer of steampunk—one of the few truly enjoyable things in an otherwise horrible script). [livejournal.com profile] momebie and I have an opinion about whose musketeer is everyone's favorite. So, now we're curious.

Favorite Harry Potter Book

  • Apr. 5th, 2010 at 8:33 AM

This morning I watched a YouTube video in which someone said that Goblet of Fire was their favorite Harry Potter book and it got me thinking—I tend to hear people say that their favorite Harry Potter book is either Prisoner of Azkaban, Goblet of Fire, or Order of the Phoenix. This thought of course led me to wonder if I'm only hearing that because those are my top three, or if people generally prefer the three middle books of the series. Therefore, poll time!

ETA: Please click to confirm that you've read all 7 books. Hard to choose a favorite if you haven't read them all! ;)

Thanks for indulging my curiosity. ;)

Book Time!

I found a Barnes & Noble gift card today and am planning to buy a book very soon (possibly today)! I'd like for this book to not be manga (even though I still need to buy the latest FMA volume) and I'd like for my flist to help me select which book I should buy. There are three I've been thinking about reading, but I'm also open to other options.

ETA: I know I misspelled "thief." I'm tired.

Fandom Pusher

It has been pointed out to me on occasion that I am somewhat of a fandom pusher. So, you all now have a chance to speak out and say, "Em Got Me Into Fandom and All I Got Was a Lousy Obsession."

I'd just like to preface this by saying that the influences and fandoms I selected are ways that I believe I have encouraged friends to get into fandoms, and fandoms that I believe I have pushed on people. There are probably valid choices that I did not iterate in this poll, so please feel free make additions in the comments.

Self-Gift Buying

Yay! My thing that I can't talk about because I'm buying it for [livejournal.com profile] dragonbetween and technically is a Christmas gift for me arrived! And it's awesome (because I'm a nerd)! Yay!

This is the second Christmas gift I've bought for myself on behalf of [livejournal.com profile] lord_varos. I'd also like to point out that I'm the one storing these gifts because McKay is concerned that he'll forget where he put them. *sigh* I will at least make him wrap them . . . though, given that he enjoys wrapping presents in electrical tape or making me go on scavenger hunts for them perhaps I would be better off wrapping them myself.

Anyway.

Out of curiosity, does anyone else buy gifts for themselves on behalf of someone else?

(Yes, I am once again posting NaBloPoMo in my last minutes before bed. Why do you ask?)

Note: All characters chosen entirely by what made the funniest jokes while maintaining a diverse showing of multiple fandoms.

I'm being cheap about my NaBloPoMo, but [livejournal.com profile] myras_girls is here (and therefore I am distracted), so I don't see why you should think any less of me.

DST Ends

  • Nov. 3rd, 2007 at 8:08 PM
theemdash: (FMA Ed & Al)
In my part of the world, today is that wonderful day of the year when DST ends and time "falls back." This day is like a personal holiday, a day I always allow myself to goof off and chill out, fully taking advantage of the one day of the year that literally has 25 hours. (We shall not speak of that day in the Spring when I have to give back my coveted hour.)

Today I was up at 7:00, a little groggy but awake enough to squint at the television and by the time I was done with Supernatural, I was ready to dive into fanfic, fandom essays, and scads of doujin. Tonight I'm looking forward to more Fullmetal Alchemist, more fanfic, and who knows what will become of my extra hour? Time: tonight I am her master.

So, in honor of this blessed day (and to make this poll accessible even for those who do not conform to the rigors of DST), I ask: Given an extra hour, what would you do with your hour?

Highly Scientific Results

After reviewing the Highly Scientific Con Crud Hugging Poll, I have come to the following conclusions:

1. Paul McGillion is a natural healer.

2. One of Paul's Healing Hugs can be negated by hugging another actor.

3. Firefly is not a fandom for Healing Hugs.

4. Chris Judge does not have the Healing Hug gift.

5. If you get too many hugs, you get swimmer's ear.

I swear, all of that makes perfect sense if you review the poll and read the comments.

Con Crud Be Gone!

I'd just like to say this really incredible thing about Dragon*Con.

I didn't get sick.

This is the first time in at least 3 years that I haven't gotten sick either before or after Dracon*Con. But [livejournal.com profile] dragonbetween, [livejournal.com profile] skroberts, and [livejournal.com profile] peacelovefandom are sick. (Is anyone else sick? ETA: apparently [livejournal.com profile] amazonsun and [livejournal.com profile] jedimara77, the rumors of [livejournal.com profile] scifigirl's illness were highly exaggerated.) And I'm not. There were sick people around me, increasing the likelihood of me getting sick and yet I am still perfectly healthy, sitting here not sniffling and not coughing.

HA HA! TAKE THAT CON CRUD!

Apparently getting only 5 hours of sleep most nights worked for me this year.

Or it was the Shanks Hug. I've heard that [livejournal.com profile] dragonbetween didn't hug anyone, so we're wondering if hugging celebrities has something to do with it. That sounds like the subject of a poll, doesn't it?

Does Hugging Reduce Susceptibility to Con Crud? Poll )

If anyone is wondering, this is the most highly scientific poll ever.
