Newly Archived Fic Post #9

Here's a few more newly archived fics. As before ALL fics have been polished.
★'d fics are personal favorites.

The drabble collection here is technically Daniel/Cameron, but two of the stories also have Jack/Daniel because Daniel has some history here. (Also because I'm obsessed, okay?)

Stargate: SG-1
The Next Best Thing, NC-17, Jack/Daniel, Daniel/Vala, angst, dream sex, masturbation, fix-it, Season 10, missing scenes for "Unending" (9,100 words)
this is way more Jack/Daniel than I remember, so take the second pairing with a grain of salt; also this is my headcanon explanation for THAT RANT Daniel gives Vala

Bruised, R, Jack/Daniel, angst, hurt/comfort, blow job, bruises, no kissing (1,130 words)
in addition to being my contribution to the trope of bjs in storage closets, this fic was once plagiarized for Torchwood fandom!

Sacrifice, NC-17, Jack/Daniel, angst, hurt/comfort, smut, heartbreak (2,440 words)
I remember writing this fic and going, "WHAT THE HELL IS HURT/COMFORT?!" not realizing that I wrote h/c all the freaking time

Stargate: SG-1: Daniel/Cameron Collection
Even, PG, Daniel/Cameron, pre-slash, moving, episode related, "Avalon" (100 words)
ah, a hopeful beginning to Daniel/Cameron

Glance, PG-13, Daniel/Cameron, Jack/Daniel, observant!Cameron, season 10 (100 words)
I really love that Cameron is smart enough to figure it out and it just surprises him, that's all

Healthy Breakfast, PG-13, Daniel/Cameron, Jack/Daniel, angsty, Season 10, episode tag "The Shroud" (570 words)
this time I'm mean to Daniel (but the solution is a threesome (not in this fic))

Angel
An Echo, A Ghost, A Whisper, PG-13, Illyria, Wesley/Illyria (unrequited), angst, frustration at humanity, episode related, post-"Time Bomb" (830 words)
of all my BtVS and Angel fics, this is my favorite

Fullmetal Alchemist
Obviously There's Something On Your Chest, R, Havoc, Roy/Ed, humor, crack, so much crack, genderswap, (3,020 words)
this whole fic is built around a pun and I love it

Here's a few more newly archived fics. As before ALL fics have been polished.
★'d fics are personal favorites.

Stargate: SG-1
Confused Colonels, Disgruntled Archaeologists, and Other Problems of Temporal Distortions, NC-17, Jack/Daniel, Season 4, "Window of Opportunity," established relationship, clueless!Jack, annoyed!Daniel, sex against the Stargate (4,100 words)
this combines my obsession with memory with Jack and Daniel's obsession with the stargate

Four Something in the Morning, PG-13, Jack & Daniel, Season 8, friendship (technically), early morning, Daniel's birthday, the trouble with resurrection (1,670 words)
this was about the time I got really into writing Jack

The Long Way Home, PG-13, Daniel/Sha're, Jack/Daniel, angst, grief, Daniel solo 'gating, pre-series, season 3, post-"Forever in a Day" (3,860 words)
this is another one in my top five favorite fics I've ever written

Harry Potter
Why Remus No Longer Makes Buns in His Oven, PG-13, Remus/Sirius, James, Peter, humor, crack!fic, technically not mpreg (2,260 words)
this is another one in my top five favorite fics I've ever written—possibly my favorite; I mean I'm having a hard time not posting blinking arrows around this link

Gravid, R, Remus/Sirius, angst, breakup, gut-punch (2,110 words)
bring on the emotional pain!

Fullmetal Alchemist
Porcelain Men, NC-17, Roy/Ed, angst, sex, (almost) no talking, (1,360 words)
this is the ship that still makes me wish Ed were older (but I swear I meant for him to be 18 in this fic)

Rule Number 23, PG, Roy, Maes, friendship, humor, Roy is the punchline (100 words)
I wish I'd written more in this fandom (mostly Maes because the is the best)

Saiyuki
Nightmares, PG-13, Hakkai/Sanzo, angst, nightmares, rainy night (400 words)
for my "main pairing" being a different pairing, this is almost the only pairing I wrote!

This Is What I Watch

I've seen this on a few journals (most notably with [livejournal.com profile] princessofg and [livejournal.com profile] tenaya) and I have to post it because it's exactly how I feel about fandom and why I try not to put down my friends' favorite shows (also why I will give shows repeated chances).

Your Friends Are Not Watching the Same Show You Are (And That's Okay)

[livejournal.com profile] teyana did something interesting with this and named the shows she's watching and I saw that and thought, "Yes, I have to do that." So, I'm doing that.

FMA Vol. 13

theemdash: (FMA Hughes)
I figure that since I finished reading Vol. 13 a while ago and [livejournal.com profile] dragonbetween is here (to pick up her volumes of FMA) I should probably make my post about it.

Spoilers For Chapters 50–53 )

Okay, that flailing review was a little more lackluster than usual but I'm very, very tired. I promise that the next one will be more exciting (and coherent).

Can't Make This Shit Up

As some of you know, I'm wont to write filks and crazy fandom related poetry (*coughlimerickscough*). So, I also enjoy it when other people do the same. And I enjoy it even more when the creators do it. Because: Hilarity!
'I'm the Flame Alchemist'—I swear this is in the back of Vol. 12 )

I'd just like to say that I have finally started reading The Golden Compass, so I'm not entirely in manga-land right now. (But when I'm groggy it's a little easier to get through a comic than a novel.)

Melting Bone

  • Nov. 23rd, 2007 at 8:54 PM
theemdash: (SG-1 Sam)
A few years back I wound up writing a research paper on forensic investigation for arson. (Actually the research paper was on something else and this was a loosely related topic and infinitely more interesting, so, um. . . .) Since then I've taken to critiquing tv shows saying things like, "There's no way that fire would have turned that bone to ash" and then explaining to everyone within hearing distance why that fire wouldn't have turned that bone to ash.

Recently I saw a show in which a fire melted bone. And just, no, no way can a fire melt bone. Bone doesn't melt. Right?

Well, while trying to decide what to NaBloPoMo today, I thought I'd google a little information on whether or not bone can melt. And apparently, bone can melt. Color me stunned.

Bone begins to melt around 1600 °C (2912 °F). To put that into perspective, a crematorium generates 870-980 °C (1600-1800 °F). Cremated ashes will have some bone fragments because all of the bone doesn't turn to ash (though most funeral homes will powder the remaining bone fragments).

Despite evidence that bone can melt, I still think that particular show was wrong, wrong, wrong because keeping an open fire hot enough to completely incinerate a body is difficult enough, but adding an additional 600+ °C would be impossible. To burn a fire that hot you need an accelerant and a closed area. Open fires need not apply, Mr. Mustang.

In case you are wondering, the two episodes that make me go into my bone-ash-melt rage are SG-1's "The First Commandment" (yeah, total ash? I don't think so) and FMA's "Laws and Promises" (melting bone, possible, but not in this case).

This post in no way advocates playing with fire.

FMA: Frat Regs?

  • Nov. 22nd, 2007 at 10:39 AM
theemdash: (FMA Roy)
I'm not sure if my FMA-friendly flisters are entrenched enough in the fandom to answer this question, but I figured I'd go for it and see what comes of it. . . .

Does anyone know anything about the frat regs in the State Military?

I'm assuming this isn't something that's been addressed in canon but is probably something that does come up in fanon at least a little. And guessing from the way fanfic writers sometimes operate, I'm assuming that the fanon opinion is that there are no frat regs of any kind (which, how boring), but I thought I'd ask if anyone knows if there is a fanon opinion on frat regs.

Thanks!

FMA Mental Breakdown

theemdash: (M Off-Kilter)
FMA has exploded my brain yet again. Despite warnings that the movie isn't all that great, we watched it anyway and my brain still exploded. And then there was flailing. That [livejournal.com profile] dragonbetween and [livejournal.com profile] katilara witnessed first hand. I believe it was hilarious as they laughed at me a lot.

The evening ended with a standing display of my happiness about Harry, Ed, and Daniel (independently, not together). And me physically turning in a circle as I got wound up. (There was also an important winding down process.) In general, The Em in her natural Fangirl Habitat can only be witnessed, not described.

Before the FMA-athon there was an amusing encounter at Starbucks which included a comment about fisting )

Really tired, but NaBloPoMo requires posting! And so, you get a lame conversation between me and [livejournal.com profile] katilara.

For everyone not in FMA, you just missed a hilarious pun.
